The two villages Casnate and Bernate were united in 1928. They had been inhabited since ancient times as testified by the many rests of roman age and even before, founded in the area. During the middle age most part of the territory belonged to the Cathedral of Como and Como S. Fedele Church.
Very interesting is the parish church of S.Ambrogio and S. Antonino Abate, built at the end of 1200 and completely restored during the XIX and XX centuries, and also some villas used as summer residences by the rich families of Como.
