Colonno is named after a Greek colony that settled there by order of Julius Caesar. They founded Colonno and other villages of lake Como and introduced here the olive tree, the vine and the wheat. They were the forerunners of the famous Comacine Masters. Four Roman cemeteries found between Colonno and Sala evidenced of their presence here. Communications were ensured on the lake by the strada Regia which became via Regina (Queen road) and was dedicated to Queen Teodolinda, who had restructured it.
